Last Saturday, when I was out shopping, I came across some nice blue crabs and I thought that I should try to make raw soy sauce crab. Kanjang kaejang is my favorite Korean food but I have never tried to make it before and I thought it was about time I tried. So I purchased the four crabs, guessed that it needed garlic so I got that too, went home and went through my Korean cookbooks. Hmm. No recipe. So I went online and found some recipes and videos. I found one I liked and decided to make it. Then I discovered I didn't have onions. I thought I did, but no. And ginger. So I decided to walk over to my local LotteSuper. I was in for a big surprise.

When I got there I thought that it was quite busy for a Saturday night. Oh, and a new store was replacing the little one in front. It frequently changes. But when I went around the corner I could see the entire store had been redone. So I wandered around after getting my ingredients and I was delighted and a little shocked with my discoveries. First there were frozen green beans. Fresh green beans are rare and pricey. So those were a treat. Only one problem - that freezer unit was malfunctioning and everything inside was defrosted. I told and showed one of the workers there and she turned around to tell, I am guessing, the manager in charge, because the poor man did a face plant into his palms. Rough opening day, perhaps. I bought a bag anyway. The next freezer unit was a joy. French food. Ready made fancy French food. Defrost and eat, or a quick turn in the oven and wow! About eight little freezer units full of exotic food.

One of the things I used to do when I moved to big cities was get some frozen pepared food and try these new extravagances on weekends. I am always interested in trying a new food. The kind of food wasn't available in my small town. I haven't done that in years. So I got a cart and started filling it. I got a package with three cold appetizers in cups. They were pretty good. Then there were little appetizers in the same pastry as choux, one with smoked salmon that was nice. There were also puff pastry desserts with different light fillings - I will get those again. And, of course, escargot, aka snails in garlic butter. I ate those with a baguette from the same collection that required reheating. Good. There was a citron ice that was very good as well. I tried the caramel ice cream - very dangerous because I really enjoyed it. But before I are any of these I did get my crab made but found I had to double the recipe to get the crabs covered. I will try that tonight. I am feeling very spoiled!
